** wearing the shade 'Call me'
** wearing the shade Maria **
On Friday I was delighted by a surprise delivery from the good people at Makeup Revolution and some products from their brand 'I <3 Makeup' which I actually haven't tried before (only MUR).
Just as a disclaimer - this is by no meals a full and road-tested review, just a first impressions.
In the range are 8 shades ranging from nudes, to deep reds and pinks (even a coral). They're called 'High gloss lip colour sticks' but personally, I think they're the opposite, almost completely matte, and that's not a bad thing at all, I love matte lip products, I generally find them longer wearing and easier on the eye. ** EDIT ** Makeup Revolution did confirm today that the boxes have a misprint on them, and that they are indeed 'matte' - cream matte super-saturated
Each of these are equally highly pigmented, I actually did a little gasp when I swatched the first one (Maria), I was really taken aback by the saturation of colour, and impressed. As I continued to swatch the others, I was equally impressed with their quality.
Two of the shades (Hanging on the telephone and Sunday girl) both have a little shimmer/glitter in them but the rest are pure matte, and can be built up for a more intense colour.
With being an intense colour and not a precise nib/point, if you're going for one of the darker colours, you might want to use a lip brush first, just to get a nice sharp edge on your lip line, otherwise it might be a bit irregular - but once started with the brush you should be good to top-up from the stick.
It says on the packaging that these are also waterproof, well, if by that they mean 'will stay on your lips for a very long time' then they're right, holy moly were these tough to remove! I had to use 2 lots of my Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser and really wipe with the cloth to remove this. The swatches on my hand took 1 go of the hot cloth cleanser, then a vigorous scrubbing with some Bioderma, which did the trick.
My first impressions of these were really good. I wouldn't expect them to be glossy though, you can see from the swatches and the pics of me wearing them, that they're pretty matte. My hubby even kissed me when I was wearing the darkest colour and it didn't budge or transfer to him, so they're pretty durable, but again, this is just a first impression. The only negative I'd say about them is that if you buy more than one, you might get them mixed up as the actual stick (not the box) doesn't say what the shade is, so I've been careful to make sure I've put each of them back in their correct boxes.
