A perfect pout for the party season

There's a whole bunch of different ways you can maximise your pout ready for the party season that is almost upon us - from colourful lipsticks, to overlining, to enhancements - each different for different people, and your own preferences.

Colourful lipsticks
A great way to transform your look and potentially maximise your pout, is by experimenting with different colours.  While a classic red may look 'fuller' on one person, it might be less flattering on others, so lets have a look to see what colours are perfect for this winter.

Retro Red

You can’t go wrong with a classy red lip, but what many don’t realise, is that red comes in a variety of shades and hues.

Give your pout an update with a red lipstick with a touch of tangerine. And to make even more of a statement, why not match your lip and nail colour - a personal favourite trick of mine, it doesn't have to be exactly the same, but red & red, pink & pink etc.

Berry Burst

Whether London or Paris, Milan or New York, berry coloured lipsticks were all the rage for Autumn Winter 2015/2016. Some of the most notable mentions are: Carolina Herrera’s cranberry lips, Felder Felder’s matte berry pinks and Roksanda’s deep and indulgent wine burgundy.

For a catwalk to pavement look, why not take influence from these designers and try a statement deep Goth berry matte lipstick for a night out or a velvet dark raspberry for day wear? Pair with a simple ponytail and a natural face for rich, yet understated, glam.

Stay away from the bright and bold, such as fuchsias or magenta, as these are more summery colours.

Natural Nudes

Yeah, I don't wear many nude shades, they really don't suit me, but this one by Maybelline on the far right is pretty awesome.  And with it being matte it'll be very flattering too, and long lasting.  To give the illusion of a fuller lip, just dot a little clear lip gloss on the centre of your lips, and highlight your cupids bow - this will give the illusion of a fuller lip.  Plus, if you do wear a nude, you don't have to worry about the colour bleeding out or the lipstick looking messy when you're busy on the dance floor or sipping your cocktails.

Tantalising Tints

As much as I love lipsticks, I also love a tint, and a pale one at that!  The one of the far left in 'my pink' is probably my favourite tinted balm ever.  I absolutely love the Clarins Instant Light lip balm perfectors - they're really hydrating, they last well, and they smell amazing too (like white chocolate).

If you want something a bit more polished, maybe opt for a lip gloss instead.  In fact, what you could do is wear a lip stain (the ones that literally stain your lips and leave no residue that they were even there!) and a clear gloss over the top :)

Overlining

Now, I can't say this is something I'm a particular fan of.  Lots and LOTS of women do it, and do it well, I'm not one of them.  I understand it's a good way to make the most of what you have (i.e. lining to the very outer edge of your natural lip), but I'm not a fan of creating a whole new shape of lips just by drawing them on :P

Something a little more permanent

I'll be honest here, it's not something I would personally do, but I know a lot of people in real life who would have it and I know someone who has had it done, and they look fantastic, you'd never know they'd had it done, they just looked like they had good lips and you know what, more power to them.  I think this is where spending some time researching comes in - as with any form of cosmetic alterations, be sure you're going to the right person, and not just the cheapest.

Here's some places to start your search (p.s. as I've never had it done, so I'm not 'recommending' any of these, just giving you some links to start your search - who you pick is 100% up to you and needs to be based on your own research).

OCC plastic passion lip tars

new occ lip tars

OCC lip tars with brushes

OCC lip tars swatched

OCC lip tars on lips

Me wearing rollergirl
You know Spring is on its way when brands start releasing their Spring makeup lines, well, OCC are no exception to this.  They've just released 6 new additions to their line up (you can find these at Cocktail Cosmetics) under the banner 'plastic passions'.

Each one will set you back £11.95* (cheaper than a MAC lipstick), and come with their own lip brush in a cute little pouch.  The shades mannequin and rollergirl are both creamy shades, but pleasure model has a pinky irridescent shimmer in it that's very pretty.

I haven't worn these enough to give you a review, this is more to let you know they're there (as of the 1st Feb) - although I haven't worn them much, I already have a favourite, the purple :)  Not only is it a really spectacular and different colour, I think it has the nicest formulation too - it seems to apply most evenly.  From the times I've worn them I've been impressed with the pigmentation, and I've discovered not too apply too much, otherwise they're a bit gloopy, so with these, less is more!

What's more, if you're not 100% sure which colour you want, you could pick up an OCC lip tar mixing palette so you can combine different shades to create an entirely new one that's completely unique, and it's only £3.95 :)

What's your favourite shade?

Revlon Black Cherry

Hey Pixi3's!  How are you all this fabulous Sunday?  Now that we're well and truly into Autumn/Fall, I thought it would be a great time to review this stunning colour lipstick by Revlon that I picked up the other day.  It's the Revlon Black Cherry lipstick, a very on trend colour for A/W12.

They say "Infused with mega-moisturizers to seal in color and softness. Find your lip color amongst a dazzling array of 82 fabulous, fashionable shades!"

Top left swatch several swipes from bullet, bottom right just one swipe

On the lips

Here's two applications for you, the first is just applied with a lip brush making sure all the lips are fully covered.  Then in the second picture (as annotated), on top of already applying it with a brush, I applied it straight from the bullet for a deeper darker colour.  If my lips look a bit weird in the second picture, it's because my lips are slightly parted but you can't really tell :)  If only my lips were that full!

1 Coat applied with a lip brush.

Straight from the bullet, applied on top of the picture above.

My Thoughts

I discovered this lipstick from watching one of Fleur de Force's videos and thought it was stunning!  Then when I was heading to a fashion event a couple of weeks ago, I thought this would be the perfect, on trend colour to wear (since my clothes weren't that trendy).

The consistency is similar to that of a more matte shade, but still being quite creamy.  It's not the most hydrating lipstick, but it's not drying at all either.  It's massively pigmented and buildable (as you can see from the two pics above).  I really love this colour, and I'm glad I have black hair, it really helps to carry such a darkness.  But blondes do not fear!  I've seen Fleur de Force wear this shade and other dark shades in her videos and it looks stunning on her, so go give it a try :)

Negatives.  The only real negative I could find was that if you have any dry skin on your lips, and you apply it straight from the bullet, it does emphasise those areas, so make sure you've used your sugar scrubs etc on your lips before applying it if there is any dryness.  The other tip would be if you knew you were going to wear this shade say, on a Friday night, wear a good lip balm all day and hopefully any dryness there was will be gone by the evening, or certainly minimised.

You can pick this up in Superdrug and Boots (and I'm sure, many other places!) for about £7.49.  I think both Boots and Superdrug have offers on makeup on the leadup to Christmas too.  I know superdrug are doing 3 for 2, and I think Boots are doing 2nd item half price.

Have you been brave enough to try this shade yet?

Accessorize Lip Gloss

Hey guys,

I have another Accessorize lip product for you today!  You know how lip products are my nemesis!  Pics below and my thoughts (as usual!)

From L-R The Accessorize lip gloss, the Accessorize lipstick and lipgloss, the Accessorize lipstick*

My Thoughts

I really like this lip gloss :)  Again, cute packaging as with all the Accessorize beauty products (I love a brand that does different things with packaging, like Paul & Joe).  The scent is amazing!  It smells like ice cream, NOM!  It really reminds me of the lip gloss with the MUA Lip BOOM's, I love them too :p But I do prefer a creme gloss as opposed to a glitter gloss (tell that to my crazy glitter collection!).  I love the colour too, that's one thing I'm really lacking in my collection, corals.  I have near to none, and considering I'm so pale, you'd think I'd have a decent amount of them, wrong!  I'm impressed with the amount of product you get too, often with these squeezy tubes you tend not to get as much, but in these you get for £2.95 14ml.  I really like it, and honestly can't find anything bad to say about it :)

Question - do you prefer the white background to my photo's or the coloured/patterned backgrounds?

Accessorize Lipstick

Hey guys!

I've seen that Accessorize have branched out into makeup for a while now but I've been a bit hesitant to try it because... well... I'll be honest, as much as I really love their jewellery, stunning designs, I find them to be a bit overpriced for the quality... there, I said it!  And I was worried the makeup would be the same :(  However, if I'm right (this is just me guessing and putting two and two together, perhaps to make 11) then I think the people that make Accessorize makeup, might also be the people who make MUA and lets face it, I rave about MUA - so here goes :)  Pics and review at the bottom :)

Accessorize lipsticks can be bought in Superdrug for just under £5*

My Thoughts

Matt lipsticks are really on trend right now, I also think they're more versatile.  They work great with lip pencils (same sort of consistency), adding gloss really changes the look and just by itself, it looks great too.  The only downside with these is that they aren't hydrating at all, so it's either the look you're going for, or you need to add a gloss/balm over the top.  Or like a lot of other people do, they start with a balm - personally I can't do that, the lipstick bleeds if I do that and trust me, that isn't a good look!

Ok, on to the product.  First impressions, I love the packaging!  Super pretty, I love that they've done something different, I can really get on board with that.  When you see their stand in Superdrug, it's hard not to be drawn to it because of how pretty all the products are :)

The colour I have is Shade 2 - Love Sick.  It's a beautiful blush colour and doesn't seem quite as dark when it's on your lips as it is in the packaging.  That might be because of my colouring and lip colour, and isn't a slant on the product - it's very highly pigmented - a great colour :)  It lasts well, of course if you add a gloss over the top it won't last as long, same as any lipstick :)

What I'm not so keen on is the extra 'pot' of product you get with it.  The pot is on the lid, which is strange, it feels like it should be the bottom, so I keep pulling the wrong end off, then the pot comes with it... I think the packet would look much more pretty without it, it just doesn't need it.  Also, it's not very hydrating, but it's a matt lipstick and none of them are, so I don't hold it against it :)  It's a beautiful product and isn't expensive.  In my opinion, the packaging alone is worth it :)  I really like it and it's becoming my go-to lipstick :) I've just realised how much I've rambled on about something I didn't think I had much to say about :p

What do you think of Accessorize makeup?  What's your favourite bit of their packaging?

MUA Lipstick Shade 13

Hey guys, I recently purchased a few bits from MUA online, and part of that was a bunch of lipsticks :)  So bit by bit I'll be reviewing them :)  The first of this series is the bright red colour, Shade 13.

My Thoughts

When I saw this shade in real life, I wasn't sure I'd like it, it was a bit bright for me!  However, once I'd put it on I loved it!  As most of their lipsticks are, they're very hydrating with amazing colour payoff, and if you can believe it, it's only £1!!!!  Such great value.  MUA just seem to keep knocking them out of the park, there's very little of theirs I don't like, their products seem to be continuously improving too :)  I love this lipstick and the colour was a pleasant surprise.

Collection Pure Gloss

Hey guys!  So, I have a new shiny lip-smackin' gloss for you today, whoop!  Yes that's right, I've had coffee today!  Before I go a bit crazy, here's the pics with a summary at the end :)

Collection Pure Gloss

My Thoughts

So, what's my thoughts I hear you ask?  Well ask my dears and you shall receive!  First impressions were good, one of the things I really like about it, is that it's not too sticky, that's something I really don't like in a gloss... no, not good.  But this, is great!  It smells nice (doesn't taste of the smell though, if you know what I mean?).  It gives a lovely pink glisteny shine on your lips and will need re-applying after about... 1 hour?  Which, lets be honest, isn't bad for a non-sticky lip gloss.  Also, I'm quite funny about these things, and I like it to look fresh on all the time, so I probably re-apply more than necessary :p

Either way, I really liked this, and I'd like to try some of the other lovely colours they've released like Candyfloss and Lollipop :)  I think this is a relaunch of their old product, but relaunched as Collection and not Collection 2000.  I'm really rubbish and I can't remember how much it was, and I can't find online how much it retails for... but I'd put money on it being less than £5 :)

Have you tried any of Collection's lip products before?  What did you think?

Lush Emotional Brilliance

Hey everyone!  Hope you haven't all had a too bad Monday?  Me? I found it hard to stay awake at work... that's burning the candle at both ends for you (nothing exciting though, blogging until late)  :D

So, on the way home from work today, I needed to stop into Lush to pick up some shampoo and conditioner refills (Veganese conditioner and I love Juicy shampoo just in case you were wondering!) and I saw all the Emotional Brilliance branding on the window, only then did I remember that's their makeup line, so, super excited I dash in and have a look to see what it's all about :)

Using it as a blusher (I may have gone a little crazy with it!)

and on the lips - love this colour!

A friendly assistant came over to explain it to me, now, me being a bit dumb, thought they were all nail varnishes, lol, but no, low and behold they're multi-purpose products! yay!  I went for 'Perspective'.  It's a lovely colour for the lips, and works beautifully as a blusher too - nice!

The friendly assistant did also mention that some of the colours could double up as eye liner too - which I do remain a bit dubious about, just because I can't imagine it having amazing staying power, but, what do I know, it's not like I've tried it :)

Now, I haven't had time to extensively test this, but my first impressions are great, they come in such a great range of colours, they're not tested on animals, they're handmade and almost completely recyclable, awesome-sauce!  Each one costs £14.50 and contains 5g of product.

I'll definitely be recommending these :)  Have you tried any yet?  What did you think?

Revlon Lip Butters - they're finally here in the UK!!!

Guys guys guys, I'm super excited!!! I've been searching and searching for the lip butters for days / weeks now, and after reading up about other girls who've managed to get places like Superdrug to sell them to them before being showcased I thought I'd try my luck at my local superdrug too, and boy am I glad I did!!!

So, I'll cut to the chase, I bought 4 awesome colours!!! Lollipop, Creme Brulee, Cupcake and

Strawberry Shortcake - Lollipop is definitely my favourite, I'm actually wearing it as we speak I love it so much!

All of the colours are gorgeous - and I'm pretty sure I will wear them to death :p

As for the consistency they are exactly as we've all watched and read about - a balm, a lipstick, a gloss - all rolled into one - they have a lovely finish on them and they all have different qualities, some are more matt than others, some have glitter, some don't etc, but ultimately what brings them all together, is their pure awesomeness! They are so wearable, and for what they are, I'm happy with how well they last. I've been wearing the Lollipop colour now for about 3 hours, I've
had 1 cup of tea (which quite a bit of lipstick was left on the cup), but my lips still look well covered and I haven't had to re-apply.

Here's some swatches for you :)

I believe Superdrug will be having an offer on them which will be 2 for £9.99, they wern't on offer for me, I paid £7.99 for each of them, which is about $10 each - so quite a lot, but on offer they'll be a great deal :) I paid it anyway as I really wanted them :)

So all in all, very very happy and impressed - well done Revlon - I'm so glad I've re-discovered you :)

DuWop Venom Gloss

Hello everyone <3 So I thought I'd do a bit of a review on the DuWop Venom Gloss that I had in this months' Glossy Box - I felt compelled to share my thoughts with you!

Screenshot of the DuWop website (American site)

When I saw this product in my Glossy Box I was super excited, a really lovely coloured gloss (I love neutrals!) and a lovely helping of sparkle in it too. So I grabbed it from the box this morning and took it into work with me. Once we were a couple of hours into the morning and I'd had my regulation cup of Tea I decided to give it a go and see what it was like.

Much to my horror, yes, horror I found it to be horrible! It worked as a plumper, if as by definition I want my lips to feel like they're about to explode in a tingly mess over my face - a slight exaggeration, but they did tingle like crazy! The worst part was how thick and gloopy it was. I applied a normal amount, not very much, and I had to lines on the join of my lips where it gathered and in the corners of my mouth, not a good look! Then, when it started wearing off it became really really sticky, not a nice feeling.

I was really disappointed and definitely wouldn't pay for it. I'm sure there are loads of people out there who love it, and would love it who haven't tried it yet, but for what I like in a lip gloss, it wasn't for me. I prefer slightly thinner gloss's, not thin ones, but something like the Revlon Super Lustrious lip gloss - they're the perfect consistancy for me. I find the Maybelline colour sensational lip gloss's slightly too thin - there's no real staying power with them, and the Revlon is a nice balance.

All in all, a thumbs down :(
