5 Lipsticks for Spring

5 Lipsticks for Spring

Spring lip swatches

Ok I admit it, you might see a few easter/spring themed posts in the near future so I have an excuse to use the little chicks, I just can't help myself, they make my blog pics SO happy!

That aside, I do tend to write seasonal posts and this time, it's all about lipsticks, specifically pink lippies that are perfect for Spring.

Here's a closer look at what I picked:

Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake
- I love how buttery these are and longer lasting than you expect.  I'm not saying they're 'long wearing' per-say, but for a buttery balm in a lip stick I think they do pretty well, adding a pretty flush of colour.

Urban Decay Naked lip gloss in Liar*
- Ok technically this isn't a lip stick, however, I adore this colour, and as it's part of the Naked collection, they go beautifully with the Naked eye shadow palettes, which are also perfect for spring, especially the 2nd and 3rd palette as they're cooler toned.

L'Oreal Caresse lip gloss stain in Lolita
- People seemed to really love or hate these, I think I sat somewhere in between - when it's fresh on I love it, but like any glossy type of product, I hate how my hair gets caught in it.  The product itself is lovely, and such a beautiful colour, a dusky pink with a subtle glittery shimmer.

Laqa & Co lip pencil (I think the shade is called Fairyblood)
I really like big fat lip crayons and these ones are great, they last really well on the lips adding a nice even application of colour and this colour is so perfect for spring.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector in 02*
Possibly one of my favourite lip products - the Clarins instant light lip perfection range, both these and the lipstick versions more recently released are absolutely lovely on the tips, plus they smell like white chocolate, so what's not to like?

Maybe I should have created a Spring look using one of these?  I can just imagine them with a pretty soft pink blusher, very light eye shadow, black liquid eyeliner and bold mascara :)

Top 5 nail polishes for Spring

It's been such a beautiful past couple of days I felt inspired to put together my top nail polishes for Spring.  I picked some beautiful bright happy colours that for me make me feel happy whenever I put them on and get me in the mood for what will hopefully be a great Summer :)

Matilda is photo bombing my picture :)

I really love all of these shades and I'm almost temped to wear them all at the same time, one on each nail :)  For me, these are the perfect Spring colours, they're (mostly) bright pastels which is perfect for the SS13 trend (of course the Filthy Gorgeous London is neon pink, not quite a bright pastel) :)

All of these shades are decent and long wearing, and none need more than two coats for full opacity.  The two Rimmel shades and the Barry M nail Gelly I bought from Superdrug, the Essie one I picked up at Fragrance Direct, and the Filthy Gorgeous one* was in a goody bag from a blogger meetup I went to which I believe are £8-9 each.

It's fair to say all of these shades would look awesome on your toes too and look amazing teamed up with a pair of flip flops or sandals :)

Top 5 January Nail Polishes

So I sat down the other day and went through my nail polish collection, which I might add, has grown somewhat over the last year!  I picked out some shades which I thought for me, summed up January, from cool to bright shades, all I feel are perfect for easing ourselves into the new year.

For me, this is the perfect combination of cool day time colours (starting on the left), progressing to the more fun evening type colours (on the right), but all could easily be worn vice versa, this is just the order I'd be more likely to wear them in (with the exception of the purple opi, I'd happily wear that every day for the rest of my life)  :)

1. Essie's Fiji, 2. NYC's Park Ave, 3. Essie's Smokin' Hot, 4. Revlon's Cherries in the snow, 5. OPI's Suzi and the 7 Dussledorfs

Essie's Fiji

The perfect light shade for day or night.  Better for the night if it's teamed up with a glitter top coat, like Rimmel's Disco Gold (part of their permanent collection) - they go beautifully together. The quality is fantastic and you can get full opacity in two coats.  They don't chip quickly, especially with a good base and top coat and they're only £7.99 each, amazeballs :)

NYC's Park Ave

I love this colour, a lovely brown/grey/taupe colour (not a very good description I know!).  The quality is great, again two coats is all you need, quality is good and they're only £1.79 each, bargain!

Essie's Smokin' Hot

I adore this dusky purple colour.  It's beautifully smoky, an almost dirty purple.  The more coats you put on the darker it seems to get.  As with all Essie polishes, they last well and don't chip too quickly.  It's the usual £7.99, great value for money, and with Essie they have a great range of shades too.

Revlon's Cherries in the Snow

A beautiful bright shade perfect for the winter.  I love that it only takes one coat for opaque coverage.  One thing I love about this colour is when you really look at it, you can't tell if it's a deep hot pink or a bright vibrant red.  The brush is decent on it, it lasts well and doesn't chip for a good couple of days.  You can snap it up for £5 for a beautiful on-trend seasonal colour. *great for parties*

OPI's Suzi and the 7 Dussledorfs

What can I say, I'm in love with this colour, it's shiny, metallic and the most beautiful purple you've ever seen.  The brush is fantastic, and together with the OPI base and top coat, you'll get a good 6 days wear out of it before it chips.  This is the most expensive of the 5 at £11 but it's worth every penny.  This is the perfect evening shade (not much stops me wearing it at any time though!).

So they're my top picks, I hope you like them, I love them for January :)  Oh, and I'll be making this a monthly feature, my top five polishes for that month :)

Top 5 Glitter Topcoats

Hey guys!  So I've been thinking about doing this post for a while and today I thought, now is the time!  So I grabbed all my glitter top coats and played around with them a bit, and decided on my top 5, it's pretty much the 5 I was going to pick before playing around with them :)  So, without further ado, here they are :)

From left to right Beauty UK Comet's Tail, Maybelline Flash Cosmic, Beauty UK Twinkle Twinkle, Rimmel Disco Ball, Rimmel Disco gold.

I put each of these colours, on to my fingers too :)  Again, the same order as above (left being my little finger, and the Rimmel one on the right being my thumb)

Obviously they all work differently with different varnishes - i.e. the Rimmel Disco Gold works really well with Purple, and the Maybelline Flash Cosmic works great with turquoise :)  But all of these I really like, and you can build them up too for greater effect :)

Have you ever used any of these?  What's your favourite glitter top coat?

Feature - Tattooed Tea Lady

Hi everyone, my name is Sophia and I run a little blog called Tattooed Tealady. Georgina is a lovely girl who I have recently been talking to quite often on Twitter and she is just such a lovely blogging friend to have! So I am super excited to be here on her blog today doing a guest post. I hope you will all like it!

My top 5 favourite lipsticks

If there’s one makeup product I love, its lipsticks. They can really create a whole look and I just love adding to my ever growing collection. I have quite voluptuous lips so I like to wear shades which make them stand out, as well as shades which tone them down. My favourite shades to wear are nudes, corals and pink to reds.

MAC Honey Love / Revlon Rendezvous / Revlon Cherry Tart / Revlon Romantic / MAC Chatterbox
I can’t deny it, I am a sucker for a MAC lipstick and they are some of my very favourite, and most cherished, lipsticks in my collection. There’s just something about a MAC lipstick which makes me feel like it’s a really special lipstick. I think it’s the classic bullet design of their lipsticks. I particularly love their matte lipsticks. MAC Honey Love is a gorgeous matte nude shade which is perfect for using any time of day, with any outfit and any look. It just compliments everything so well and I love it. I love teaming it with MAC Hug Me, too. MAC Chatterbox has to be my all time favourite pink lipstick. It’s just the perfect matte pink and once I reach for time and time again.

If there is one brand I think has really out-done themselves this summer where lip products are concerned, it’s Revlon. With the release of the Revlon Lip Butters and the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Lip Balm Stains, they have taken the blogosphere by storm. I really love both products and use them most days. They are just so versatile as well as super easy to apply and long lasting. I adore the Revlon JBKLBS in Rendezvous which is a perfect coral shade, and can be built up to be quite an eye-catching shade, as well as the shade Romantic, which I have fallen utterly, head over heels in love with. I have five shades from the Revlon Lip Butter range and I love them all but my favourite has to be Cherry Tart. It’s the perfect red. Unfortunately, this is an American only shade, and I was lucky enough to be sent it in a swap. But I know I’ll definitely be paying the extra cost to get this shipped over to me when this runs out! I love it!

MAC Honey Love / Revlon Rendezvous / Revlon Cherry Tart / Revlon Romantic / MAC Chatterbox
So those are my top five favourite lipsticks! I think there’s something here for everyone and these are shades I would happily wear all year round, not just in the summer. My favourite, favourite out of the five, is probably Romantic. Let me know if you own any of these, or what your favourite shades and lipsticks are, I’d love to hear! You can find me over on my blog which is Tattooed Tealady, as well as on Twitter @tattooedtealady, I’m always up for a natter! I hope you all liked my little guest post today! Thank you Georgina for letting me do this guest post on your blog!
Love, Sophia xo

(Thanks for doing this Sophia :)  It's a great post - you really can see the difference with the quality of the MAC lipsticks, might have to get me some)  :)  Pixi3
