Soft green eye look

I promise you there's no filters on this - it's just a very low f-stop on the camera and some over-exposure :)

So I've been at it again creating another look - this is actually a bit of a go-to look for me which is why I thought I'd share it.  It's what I'd consider to be a very wearable green look.  There's 2 reasons I think it's super wearable, firstly because the liquid liner is only on the eye lid and not under the eye, and because it's not too dark in colour.  Once again, as with any look you do, or I do, it's all about blending, and adding little bits of colour and building on it.

Here's what I used:

Urban Decay Vice 2 palette, Maybelline quad in Spiced Cinnamon, Makeup Revolution kohl* & flick liner, Revlon bold lacquer mascara, Urban Decay primer potion in eden, and Benefit Browzings & Gimme Brow.

Here's how I used it:

After you've filled in your brows, prime your lid with your eye shadow primer (for me, this was the UD primer potion in eden).  

Then take the Maybelline Smoky Cinnamon quad, and apply the lime green colour to the inner third of the lid by patting it on.  Then, go to the Vice 2 palette and the shade 'Stash' it's a mossy green colour that's quite flakey.  Pat this on the rest of the lid.  Then take a clean blending brush and blend it all in including the edges.

Once you've done that, go back to the Maybelline quad and go to the dark green shade with a fluffy blending brush (I used the one in the Vice 2 palette) and blend it through the crease and outer V. Once you've done that, take the cinnamon shade in the Maybelline quad, and blend a small amount on the outer edge of the green (like in my pic) just to give the look at little warmth.

I then took the dark green from the Maybelline quad and blended it under the waterline. Added some kohl liner to my waterline, liquid liner to the base of my lashes with a cat-eye flick and 2 coats of mascara.  Oh and before I forget, I added a highlight just under the brow bone, this was the shade 'Dope' from the Vice 2 palette.

Purple eyes NYE look

At the weekend I was feeling all inspired after donning some purple clothes (my favourite colour) and thought I'd create a purple transition look for you.  Now, sometimes I'd be brave and wear this as a day look, but in reality it's more of a NYE look (for me).  If you wanted to jazz it up a bit more, you could press a little glitter on the centre of your lid to make it pop, or use a glitter liner like the Urban Decay heavy metal liners and go for a double liner look :)

Here's what I used and how I used it:

Prime - I primed my eyelids with the Urban Decay Eden primer potion - I used this one as I have a lot of redness and blueness around my eyes at the moment due to the lack of sleep, and this evens it out creating a nice base for the shadow.

Brows - I used the Benefit Browzings( and Gimme Brow( to shape and define my brows, to frame the look.

The shadow - I started with the pink shimmery shade called 'coax' from the Urban Decay Vice 2 palette (any similar shade will do) and patted that on the inner third of my eye.  Then I dabbed Betrayal on the middle of the lid (from the same palette) pulling it to the edge of the lid.  Then I worked through the glittery black shade 'Lovesick' through the crease, focussing on the outer edge to make it smoky.  Next up from the Makeup Revolution 'Give them Nightmares' palette*, I opted for the dark purple shade (pictured above with a heart on it) and dabbed that on the outer third of the lid.

Once that was all in place, I took a blending brush and blended it all in, adding extra colour for depth where needed.  I also took these 3 shades under the eye in the exact same order.

Liner - I used the Makeup Revolution Kohl & Flick liner* - the kohl on the waterline, and the liquid liner for the rest, creating a cat eye flick.  To finish this off and take the edge off the sharpness, go back to the sparkly black shade in the Vice 2 palette 'Lovesick' (honestly, every time I write that word, I go to write Lovestick - something very different, lol) and blend it in on the liner with a small but fluffy brush.

Mascara - I've used the Makeup Revolution Viper* mascara here, as much as it may not be the best mascara, after a couple of coats you can create some very pretty fluttery eye lashes, my only issue is that I make the liner so thick that you don't really see my lashes anyway - this is perhaps where falsies would be better, especially for a NYE look :)

Tip - when creating this look less eye shadow is more, it's much easier to add more shadow to the look if needed than take away, and blend, blend, blend!

Makeup Revolution Euphoria palette in Bare

Six eyeshadows, 2 mattes and 4 shimmers.  A bronzer, highlight and blusher.

Using just MUR products (viper mascara, Kohl and flick liner, Euphoria palette (2nd, 3rd & 6th shades) and the ultra aqua brow tint in medium

When this landed on my door step, my first thought was 'ooooh so pretty!' - a palette perfect for weekend breaks, or holidays.  It wasn't until I swatched it, that I realised just how pretty the eye shadows actually are.  They're like a hybrid of the best of the Naked palettes, both mattes and shimmer shades.  Then you have the contour palette, a soft matte bronzer for contouring, a soft and gentle highlighter and a NARS Orgasm dupe of a rose gold blusher.

As always the eye shadows are exactly what you've come to expect from MUR, well pigmented and long lasting.  I was going for a very soft look that was all about the eye liner.  I use shade 2 on the inner half of my eye, shade 3 on the outer half, and then shade 6 on the outer v and crease.

I combined the look with the bronzer, highlight and blusher from the palette, finishing off with their anti-shine balm (their Benefit Dr Feelgood dupe).

The only negative I have to say about the look I created is with the kohl and flick liner, the kohl isn't quite black enough for my taste :)

I'm really enjoying doing these makeup looks, yes they haven't been super colourful yet, but I do have some adventurous looks planned for you, so do let me know in the comments what looks you'd like to see me create and I'll do my best :)

At just £6 I think this is a great value palette, it's so wearable and combines great colours, with a face contour palette, a great makeup bag essential.

Glam Christmas party look

 

I was sitting here writing a blog post when all of a sudden I felt inspired to create a Christmas look. I wouldn't normally go for bold lips and eyes, but I think Christmas parties are one of the times when you can really glam up and go all out.  

I tried to keep the eye shadow not too over the top and instead focussed on the eye liner, brows and lips.  So here's a breakdown of what I used and how I used it :)

Makeup Revolution anti-shine balm

If you've ever heard of or used Benefit Dr Feelgood then you'll know this product, it's a great dupe for it.  Dr Feelgood was my first high end makup purchase back about 15 years ago, god I feel old! I use this on top of my foundation by dabbing it with the sponge it comes with.  It helps to keep shine under control and keep your foundation primed - I use this in place of powder, and I usually find it works better than powder at shine control.

Makeup Revolution ultra aqua brow tint in medium

This is the first time I've used a liquid product like that on my brows.  I usually fill them in with powder and go for a fairly natural look with slight definition.  I haven't mastered that yet with this, I think this products strength is creating well defined brows that look well filled in.  It's well pigmented, but not over the top - you wouldn't want that in a brow product lets face it!

Makeup Revolution Iconic dreams palette

This is a very different palette from most of the Iconic ones, there aren't any really deep dark shades, i.e. no black or very dark brown.  That's why I picked this palette for this look as I didn't want very dark eye shadow.  For the look I applied the 4th shade all over the lid (very similar to Urban Decay Sin), then the 9th shade (a brown/green) on the outer half of lid, and finally the 10th shade in the crease.  Oh, I did also use the 2nd shade as a highlight under the brow and the 7th shade underneath the eye next to the eyeliner.

Revlon Colourstay skinny eyeliner

This is the finest, skinniest eyeliner I've ever used!  If you like creating definition and having a very fine line (perfect for the inner part of your eyes) then you really might like this.  It's jet black and pretty matte, and doesn't transfer up on your lids (winning!).

Makeup Revolution The Viper mascara

This is the first MUR mascara I've tried, it has an unusual wand (shaped like a cobra head) and has normal bristles instead of rubber ones.  It grips the lashes pretty well and after 2 coats creates a nice feathered full lash look (I'll do a proper review of this separately so you can see before and with different coats on).

Makeup Revolution the one fluid blusher in pink dew

I haven't tried the Daniel Sandler watercolour blushers before other than swatching them, but these seem to be exactly the same for a fraction of the price.  I absolutely love the subtle wash of colour they give my cheeks, so much nicer than a powder blusher, and they last well too.

Glo & Ray lipstick in Imprint Red

This is a gorgeous bright and zingy red (it photographs brighter than it actually is) that's one of the more hydrating lipsticks I've worn recently.  Since it's a glossy lipstick it doesn't last quite as well as matte ones, however its great for a glam look for the party season and so well pigmented.
