£15 high street challenge - January

£15 monthly high street challenge

So I've decided to start a new series on the blog, where instead of spending like, £13 a month on a beauty box, instead I'll hit the high street and spend £15 a month on makeup instead.  I've decided to do this for a couple of reasons, one because I like makeup and full size samples (makeup and full size samples don't seem to go hand in hand with beauty boxes, it invariably ends up being sample sizes of skincare) and secondly because I was becoming very self conscious of how many of my beauty reviews were PR samples and wanted to make sure I was also blogging about products I'm buying. But since I'm on maternity leave, I'm super skint, hence the low budget.  I'm hoping to get about 3 products each month for my money, so I'll be thriftily shopping!

Here's what I picked up for January.

January makeup challenge

I'd asked on Twitter for recommendations and Beth from @BethBlogsBeauty recommended the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hour foundation - I have (had) the lasting perfection foundation which I loved, so this was an easy buy.  It was £7.99, but with £1 off my Superdrug reward card, it was only £6.99, leaving me with £8 to spend.

I'd also debated getting the Seventeen Phwoarr paint - I think this is supposed to be a dupe for Benefit Boi-ing, which I used to love, but as I got older, it didn't sit on my skin very well (too thick and heavy), and I think this might be the same - however, I won't know until I try it.  It's the first thing from Boot's Seventeen brand that I've bought since I was about 19, which was a long time ago!  This set me back £5.50, leaving me £2.50.

This is where it gets annoying.  In Boots at the Collection stand, they had lots of stuff for £2.50. They had a shelf with mascara's on, and the banner underneath promoting the £2.50 offer spanned the width of it, so I naturally assumed all those mascara's were £2.50, but when I got to the checkout it was £3.99, which was £1.50 over my budget.  I was in a massive rush to get back home and get the cat to her appointment at the vet, so I couldn't go back and swap it - the lady behind the counter kindly ran down and picked up the ones that were on the offer, but all the ones she brought back were used... so I paid up and went on my way.  So I guess this month it's the £16.50 challenge... bah, never mind, it's not a big deal :)  I really do with these mascara's had seals on them as it's often so hard to tell if they've been opened...

So, other than that slip-up, how do you think I did with my budget shopping?  If you have any recommendations for next month, leave them in a comment below :)

  2. I like the idea :) The Rimmel foundation is one of my favourite from drugstore and the Seventeen concealer is great for any blemishes but way too heavy for my aging under eye area ;) x

  3. I think you did great with this budget shopping, Georgina and you've inspired me to do the same. I think I'll set a budget for myself and see what I can get. It'll also force me to be very creative with my content which is brilliant! Thanks for the inspiration. xx

  9. Thanks Kelly :) Already thinking about what I should get next month - since we have an Elf store here in Cardiff, I'm thinking that one month I just buy from Elf to see what I can get for £15 :)

  10. Rimmel liquid eye liners? I'm actually looking for some good coloured liners for some looks I want to do :)

  11. I don't wear liquid eyeliners so can't comment on those, but the kohl ones are amazing! x

  12. Ah, ok :) I only tend to wear kohl on my waterline, or just underneath it - if I wear it where I'd wear liquid liner, it transfers all over my lid as they're oily and very hooded :)

  13. I love the nude version of this foundation as this one felt a little too mask like for my liking sadly but it's amazing in terms of coverage :D xx

  14. Was that the blue cap one? I loved that one too :D I haven't tried this yet, I can't quite tear myself away from my Bourjois Radiance Reveal... gosh it's lovely!

  16. Thanks Ash :) Thanks for the recommendation, I might get that in March - I've already spent some of Feb's budget on the Fleur de Force book, so I'll only have about £3 left :)

  17. No the blue one is Match Perfection, and there are two version of the Lasting Perfection 25hrs, this one which is the super full coverage and a red lid, and then the 'nude' version which is medium coverage with a white lid :D xx

  18. I'd rather full sized products too. I think you did quite well with the spend, going £1.50 over really isn't a big deal. x

  19. Ah I haven't seen that one, maybe one for me to try another month :)

  20. Yeah, so far I much prefer it to a beauty box :)

  21. I think this is a great idea and I too much prefer full sized products and think it's important for bloggers to still blog about the actually things they purchase. I have been thinking about picking up the Lasting Finish foundation as I am in need of a new foundation so will be keen to see how you get on with that.
