A foundation free month

Me without foundation

Yep, you read that title right, during January I'm not wearing any foundation, concealer or powder.  In December my skin wasn't looking exactly good, it became redder and redder, and I really broke out with loads of spots.  So I decided to give my skin a break and January seemed the best month to do it. I'm getting back on the healthy eating bandwagon (eating LOADS of veg!) and I'm doing Dry January (no alcohol in Jan).

I know that pic doesn't make my skin look terrible, but trust me, I have a lot of redness going on, especially when you compare the skin on my face to my neck and decolletage.  I also get dark circles around my eyes (purple and blue) which I won't be covering up.

There's a few other things I'm going to do this month to try and get my skin in the best shape possible, like drink more herbal tea, drink more water, eat more vegetables, eat more fruit and eat less rubbish!

If you have any tips to help with my regime feel free to leave them in a comment below :)

  1. Whenever I have my worst acne break outs I steer away from skin makeup. It's better to look worse for a bit and let your skin heal than hide it and prolong it! I really advise getting some aloe vera gel, it calms down redness and patches on skin and acts as a moisturiser as well. It's one of my natural saviours! Coconut oil helps with any dry, red or irritated patches as well. Also make sure you drink loads of water, even when you're not thirsty just carry a bottle around and swig constantly.
    Good luck!

  2. I'm also trying to get my skin in good shape, it needs it! I'm starting to drink more water and have more fruit and veg as that is most important and will also help the skin. Good luck :)

    1. Drinking more water is definitely something I need to do. It's been my goal for this month and so far I'm failing miserably!

  3. I had major issues with red skin and little break outs all over, get your hands on some La Roche Posay - Effaclar Duo.... seriously saved me!! My skin is redness free and no more breakouts. Its a miracle, i got a friend onto it and all her redness has gone. I slather it on morning and night. I hope that helps!

  5. This is a really good idea to give skin a break. I wish I could do it but I know I can't leave the house without make up! I look absolutely terrible! You look great!

    1. Could be worth a try :) I'm still wearing eye makeup and some blusher, so your face won't look totally naked :P

  7. I have the worst habit of forgetting to take my make up off at night when I stay at a friends or my boyfriends, and it's eventually caught up with after months and months! I haven't worn foundation for two weeks and can already see it improving, with help of healthy eating and staying hydrated! Good luck!

    1. Oh that is naughty! You should keep a little bottle of Bioderma and some cotton pads at his place just for emergencies :)

  10. I want to do this too, but I just can't get myself to do it...!
You look fine without all the make up, and even though we don't know each other, I am so proud of you!
Hope you stick to your resolutions and hope you have a happy, healthy 2014!

    1. Awww thank you, that's so sweet! There's been a few times I've wanted to reach for the foundation but I've steered clear, apart from having a couple of spots, my skin does seem to be becoming less red :)

  11. You look lovely without make-up! As far as tips for skin goes, I have very dry skin so I like to use coconut oil as a moisturiser (it's good in winter but much too heavy for summer or oily skin types) a light mask of paw paw on really problematic areas before bed every now and then helps. AND last but not least; Spirulina tablets/powder will improve EVERY aspect of your health tenfold. My skin cleared up amazingly within a month of taking them, and even if they don't help with skin they help everything else. :)

  12. Such a good idea.... I only ever wear foundation to go out out. I use concealer under my eyes but that's it. Instead of powder, I keep blotting sheets in my bag and one is enough to give me a spruce up at lunchtime! It is definitely worth sticking it out, your skin will thank you for it :)

  13. Your skin looks fantastic without foundation! I rarely wear foundation at the minute due to illness and it's done wonders for my skin - it's funny how quickly you get out of the routine! x

    1. Thanks lovely :) Yeah, I love being able to rub my face and not worry about foundation - just a shame I have a couple of spots at the moment, I'm sure they'll go quicker with me not wearing foundation though :)
